Yes. The Shelby County Historical & Genealogical Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Joining is easy! You can become a member online by completing our membership form and paying your annual dues online. You may also join in person at the museum or mail your membership information and dues to SCHGS.

Absolutely! You don’t need genealogy experience to volunteer with SCHGS. There are many ways to help, including welcoming visitors, assisting with museum and jail tours, working with exhibits and artifacts, scanning historical materials, helping at special events, maintaining the grounds, and assisting with social media and publications.
Yes. Memorial donations are a meaningful way to honor or remember someone while supporting the preservation of Shelby County history. If you would like your gift to be made in someone’s honor or memory, please include their name with your donation.
Donations directly support the work of SCHGS, including maintaining our historic buildings and museum, preserving artifacts and photographs, expanding research resources, creating exhibits and educational programs, and keeping the museum and historic jail open for visitors.
