The People Behind SCHGS 

SCHGS is powered by volunteers and members who bring different skills, interests, and experience to the work of preserving Shelby County history. On any given day, you might find someone repairing an artifact, building a display, cataloging library materials, organizing photographs, researching a cemetery, indexing records, writing an article, answering a genealogy question, or sharing a story with the community.

Our volunteers research local history, care for museum collections, organize and catalog research materials, photograph and document artifacts, create exhibits, welcome visitors and give tours, maintain our buildings, publish historical and genealogical research, answer questions from visitors, and help share Shelby County history both in the museum and online. 

Just as important are the members, families, and community residents who donate photographs and artifacts, share family stories, identify people and places in old photographs, contribute research, and help us preserve pieces of Shelby County history that might otherwise be lost.
